Hey, Jason here. Sorry it’s been so long, I’ve been busy putting up some new solar panels. The ones I made are so much better than used solar panels it’s amazing! On to the rest of the story and the dramatic (or not so dramatic) conclusion.

I’m gonna keep this brief since we’re all busy. I sat down at the coffee shop with my new friend Kyle. I told him about my search for used solar panels and just how frustrating it was. He said he’d been down the same path and he found a solution that provided him with brand new solar panels at a fraction of the cost of preowned solar pannels.
He said he found a website online that had plans for diy solar panels and he decided to try them out. A few days and about $180 later he had built his own solar panels. Wow! I asked him for the name of the website and when I got home I went to check it out.

After perusing this site I knew why Kyle had pulled the trigger. I saw that there was a money back guarantee so I figured I couldn’t lose. I bought the plans and set aside the weekend to build my first solar panel. In the meantime, I watched the instructional videos and got accustomed to what I’d be doing.
I don’t want to make this story longer than it needs to be. The next weekend I followed the plans and the step by step directions and before I knew it I had my own home built solar panels. It was as easy as Kyle said it would be. And I didn’t need to get used solar panels let alone expensive new residential solar systems.
I built a few more panels and when everything was said and done I had a nice solar system for a fraction of the cost that the consultants were asking for. And my power bill was about HALF of what it was before. I’m so glad I did this.

Hey guys, it’s Jason. To continue my story, a few days after those consultants came out with their solar power test gadgets I couldn’t wait for them to bring out the sample used solar panels. I wanted to see if they could actually deliver on the power their gadgets said they could.
Well, a few days later they showed up with a truck carrying a pair of panels to test real energy output. They set up a stand on the ground and mounted up the panels and began measuring. The output was great! I was totally ecstatic and just knew that used was the way to go! The power company was going to get a kick to the curb any day.
Then they gave me the price tag. I almost fell over in shock when I looked at the quote for a whole house residential solar system. They even wanted to charge me over SIX THOUSAND for a roof mount. The overall price tag was just ridiculous. I couldn’t believe it. Apparently pre-owned solar panel prices were a bit higher than I expected.
Knowing I couldn’t afford their solution, I sent these guys packing and started looking for another answer. I guess fate was on my side because a few days later I ran into a guy at the local coffee shop. That meeting changed my life forever. After meeting with him I knew I should be looking at DIY solar panels instead of used solar panels.

Hey there, thanks for coming back to read about my adventures with diy solar panels. I’m sure you’re wondering what on earth led me to try to beat the electric company at its own game and produce my own alternative power without using used solar panels let alone a brand new solar system.
Like I said in my first post it was a giant bill that finally put me over the edge. I had thought about buying solar panels for the home, but never really got serious about it until that bill arrived. My wife got the bill out of the mail and it was way higher than it should have been! I called and hollered at them but you know the power company, they didn’t listen.
So I looked around at alternatives. Since my wife and I are alone at home now we didn’t have much usage we could cut down on without being uncomfortable. We decided that we should investigate alternative energy solutions. If the city can use solar power for their buildings then I could probably cut my bill significantly with alternative energy sources, right?
I picked up the phone and started calling around. First I called around to some solar panel manufacturers to get an idea of what I needed. I could get brand new roof mounted solar panels, or even solar roof tiles! Using solar water heaters could also seriously reduce our power usage since we didn’t have natural gas. Well, that was exciting until I got some prices. Good grief. There’s no way I could afford to buy a new system.
On to local shops, I found some guys that specialize in used residential solar energy systems. Not super common, but worth a try. They came out with some light meters and measured the sunlight we get and decided that if we had the right solar panel efficiency we could make a big dent in our bill.
A few days later they returned with some sample used solar panels and we were well on our way. Or so I thought.
I didn’t like this solution. Luckily Kyle had a good one for me. Click here to skip the story and check it out!
I live in a great area for solar power so installing a residential solar panel system was a natural fit. So where did I get the idea to try building my own panels instead of buying used solar panels? Well, I’m writing this homepage to tell you the whole story and maybe you can learn from my mistakes.
I was fed up when I got the bill from the electric company. I knew energy prices were going up but this seemed absurd! I was now paying over $200 a month for a relatively small house. My son had moved out to his own apartment and it was just my wife and I. There was just no way we could afford to be paying this much for electricity so I decided to look into alternative power.
Solar power was the natural fit of course and that’s where I focused my efforts. I wanted to get an affordable solution because I couldn’t really spare too much money. My brother in law had recently gotten a great deal on brand new solar power so I didn’t think it would be a problem
Boy I tell you, if I had known what I was going to go through before finally figuring out the solution I might have still been giving the electric company a small fortune every month. Luckily I ran into a guy at the local coffee shop who turned me on to a solution I hadn’t even considered.
It turns out that despite what you read online from the solar panel manufacturers, it isn’t anywhere near as hard as you might think to make your own solar panels!
So that’s what I did. And now I’ll tell you my story, painful lesson by painful lesson, so you can learn from my experiences with diy solar panels instead of used solar panels and avoid the stress I went through!
